Bingo is one of the most popular online games to be played today but not many people are aware of the fact that it not a new game but became known and popular in the 16th century itself. Europe was the birth place of Bingo and it all began in Italy in 1530 to be precise. There was an Italian lottery called as ‘Lo Giuoco del Lotto D’Italia’ that was organised for the public even though there was strong disapproval from the church’s corridors. It was immensely popular and people started taking fancy to the idea.
After this it again resurfaced strongly during the beginning of the 18th century in France where the name ‘Le Lotto’ was chosen for it. It is quite apparent that the news of the popularity of the game and also the church’s disapproval spread like wildfire throughout Europe. This time we saw the version of Bingo we are familiar with. The card was divided into 27 squares (9 columns and 3 rows). In each row there were four blank and five filled squares. Each of these numbers were random. Like the 90 ball version played today, each column has numbers chosen from 10 digits, for e.g. 1-10 for column 1, 11-20 for column 2 and so on.
